 Swine Flu Notice

Human cases of swine influenza A (H1N1) virus infection, also known as the Swine Flue, have been identified in Mexico, the United States and internationally.

The CDC is working very closely with officials in states where human cases of Swine Influenza A (H1N1) have bee identified, as well as with health officials in Mexico, Canada and the World Health Organization.  At this time, the CDC is offering the following information and recommendations to prevent individuals from contracting the Swine Flu:

 STAYING HEALTHY

There are everyday actions people can take to stay healthy.
  1. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.  Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  2. Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.  Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.  Germs spread that way.
  4. REMINDER:  Wear glove when cleaning rooms.

Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

  1. Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  2. If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

SYMPTOMS & INFECTIOUS PERIOD

Symptoms:
  1. Fever, lethargy, Loss of appetite, Runny nose, Coughing, Sore throat, Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting
If you have these symptoms:
  1. See your Doctor as soon as possible as there may be medications that are effective to help with the severity of these symptoms if taken early enough.
  2. If you get sick, stay home from work or school, and limit contact with others until your doctor says it is safe to return to work.
Infectious Period:
  1. 1 to 3 days before onset,
  2. 3 to 9 days after onset of illness

By following these simple recommendations we hope to limit the spread of this flu outbreak and help keep our employees and guests healthy.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your Area Manager of Human Resources.
